design principles inspired by wood APVV 21-0015

BioWdesign is a currently ongoing multidisciplinary research project APVV-21-0015 - "Utilization and transfer of biomimetic mechanisms of wood into new forms and properties of furniture, interior and housing."

Introducing BioWdesign, a research project that explores and discovers the secrets of nature! Using the methods of Biomimicry and Biomimetics, we discover and explore the unique properties of wood as a material, its micro and macro structure, which make wood a design miracle.

Our goal is to understand, imitate and apply the unique mechanisms of wood, this perfect material, an invention of nature, into innovative solutions for current challenges in furniture and living design. We use the properties of wood, from its cellular complexity, ability to transport water to remarkable strength and flexibility, to create innovative product features that mimic its natural capabilities.

It is a path that combines the perfection of nature with the power of human creativity, resulting in designs that are not only innovative, functional, but also beautiful.

It deals with the concept of imitating natural characteristics, properties and structures that naturally occur in wood and living trees through the methods of biomimicry and biomimetics. The design draws inspiration from nature to solve functional and aesthetic challenges in the field of furniture design and housing. In this context, the project explores the unique properties of wood, such as its cellular structure, water transport, strength, flexibility and other attributes, with the aim of using these properties to design and create innovative products.
