The goal of the EKM eco-design tool is to improve education in the field of design. The EKM tool was created as a theoretical output of the dissertation of Tončíková Z. Implementation of ecological design rules into the creative process of an industrial designer. The artistic output of the project is a series of 10 DIPO stools.

Taking into account ecological design criteria will soon be an essential part of a designer's work. By creating an educational online portal and a manual (analog pocket book) in the form of a new comprehensive eco-design tool EKM and a series of DIPO taber products, the intention was to provide students with a simple guide that could systematically guide them in issues of taking into account ecological design criteria.

Ecodesign tools are themselves quite difficult to understand and apply. They were developed for the needs of entrepreneurs and companies, and therefore we decided to simplify these tools and adapt them to the specific needs of students of Slovak universities in the field of design. Since a number of proven ecodesign tools, procedures and methodologies have been developed, we tried to identify those that are most suitable for our purpose from a large number and, above all, our selection should be as diverse as possible.
The goal of EKM is not to give students barriers, but to expand their knowledge and thus lead them to new sustainable creative ideas.

TABURETY A STOLČEKY DIPO

Stool designs that were developed taking into account individual ecodesign tools. The initial purpose of the DIPO stool series was to create a concept for a unique visual aid for understanding the work with EKM. Production drawings for individual designs are freely available on the EKM website as part of case studies. More than half of the designs have been prototyped and exhibited at several renowned events.

Based on the possibility of producing the DIPO series, it is possible to realistically convey to independent designers, design students, as well as the public the possibilities of creating "our" local Ecological design, or rather to show a design that is designed "consciously" in the sense of conscious design that takes into account the entire life cycle of the product.
